For Dan Durkin, Managing Director of Technology at YES Prep Public Schools, education innovation is deeply personal. His journey into the education sector began while helping his son navigate challenges within the traditional public school system. Watching his child struggle emotionally and academically motivated Dan to search for better learning tools, support systems, and personalized educational approaches.

“The tools and techniques I found the hard way should be readily available to all students,” Dan shares.

“If we get the right people together, we can move mountains,” he says.

“It’s a constant refactoring of where technology adds value and where the human touch is most needed,” he explains.
One of the most impactful projects he led involved supporting students who struggled with verbal communication. By introducing AI-enabled touchscreen systems, students were able to visually create and share their stories in ways traditional methods could not support. The initiative transformed classroom engagement and empowered students to express themselves with confidence.

“I try to do one good, awesome thing and then repeat,” he says.
